Ohio Has a State Bird and Flower, Now It Wants a State Cryptid Too
#1
I fully support whatever cryptid gets the role and hope this helps extend cryptid rights.

Quote:The official state bird of Ohio is the Cardinal. The official flower is the red carnation. The official tree is the buckeye. Now, if a new bill makes it through the state legislature, Ohio may also adopt something a little less biologically verifiable: an official state cryptid.

I dont know too much about Ohio, so this was new to me... and the author.

Quote:Admittedly, I had never heard of the Loveland Frogman before this. To give myself a quick crash course in his lore, I gave him a quick Wikipedia read and perused the Google image gallery. From the images, I gather that he’s often represented in one of two ways: as a weird little freak or as a sexy, beefy, frog hunk. He either looks like he wants to eat your children or he’s going to sweep you off your feet. There is no in between.

It is being said that each artistic rendition from the original has made the original sighting more frog-like than it really looked like.

"The Loveland Frog has been discussed and revisited several times in the mystery animal literature, the tales recounted here having previously been published in Bord & Bord (1989)Newton (2005) and Shuker (2008)*. I especially like Bord & Bord’s (1989) section on the case because it includes the wonderful illustration you see below, produced by Ron Schaffner, and evidently based on a pencil drawing produced by one of the witnesses."

Frogs do not have ears on the top of their heads, just saying.

Are they ears or horns?

Either way, glad you could bring knowledge to the topic.

The eyewitness accounts are incredible and don't match...much. What's with the wand that emits sparks?

----------

"The most prominent and credible witnesses of the Loveland Frogman include Officer Ray Shockey and Officer Mark Matthews of the Loveland Police Department, alongside several civilian observers.
  • Ray Shockey: In March 1972, Shockey reported seeing a bipedal, leathery-skinned creature about three to four feet tall near the Little Miami River.  He observed it stand upright, jump over a guardrail, and descend into the river, an agility feat that distinguished it from typical animals.
  • Mark Matthews: A fellow officer who witnessed the creature days after Shockey’s sighting. Matthews reportedly fired at the animal but later recanted his account, identifying the creature as a large, tailless iguana that could not survive Ohio’s cold weather.
  • Sam Jacobs: In August 2016, Jacobs and his girlfriend claimed to see a giant frog-like creature standing on its hind legs near Lake Isabella while playing Pokémon Go.  Jacobs provided blurry photos and video, though the sighting remains unverified.
  • Robert Hunnicutt (or unnamed businessman): In May 1955, a witness reported seeing three bipedal, reptilian creatures near the Little Miami River.  Some accounts name him as Robert Hunnicutt, while others describe one creature holding a "wand" that emitted sparks.
  • General Public: Over 50 credible witnesses have reported sightings over the decades, with descriptions consistently citing humanoid frogs or lizards with leathery skin, webbed hands, and upright posture." (LLM)
