That video is old information. Both national guard are alive but in critical condition. This is from several updated reports. The govener was misinformed.

The suspect was also shot and is in custody.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

Reported that it was an Afghan national.

The FBI is investigating the shooting of the two guard members, who were both shot in the head, as a possible act of terrorism, officials briefed on the investigation told NBC.

Do any of the NG have weapons?
Who shot the perp?

LE source in D.C. tells me the National Guardsmen shooting suspect is an Afghan national who used a revolver.

A National Guardsman, who was not armed with a firearm, used a pocket knife to stab the suspect. Another Guardsman responded to the gunfire and shot the suspect multiple times.

The suspect reportedly shouted, “Allahu akbar!”

Harrowing and graphic video shows the moment police and other troops frantically respond to the shooting of the National Guard troops near the White House. At least one guardsman was shot in the head.

The shooting occurred in the context of Democrats and leftists saying that the National Guard troops are following "illegal orders" to be "Trump's Gestapo."

Yes, they have weapons in DC can only use them against a perceived threat. This guy came around a corner firing.

Quote:West Virginia National Guard's deployment to Washington, D.C., they are authorized to carry weapons and use force, including deadly force under specific rules of engagement (ROE). This stems from the unique federal status of D.C. and the specifics of this deployment. Let me break it down:
Key Legal and Operational Background
  • Deployment Context: Since August 2025, approximately 300–400 West Virginia National Guard members have been activated under Title 32 status (hybrid state-federal duty) as part of Joint Task Force-DC. This is in support of President Trump's "crime emergency" initiative in the capital, coordinated with the Department of Defense (DoD), Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), and federal partners. They provide visible deterrence, patrol public areas (including Metro stations), and assist law enforcement without direct arrests unless in self-defense scenarios.
  • Arming Authorization: On August 22, 2025, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a directive explicitly authorizing these Guard members to carry service-issued weapons, such as M17 pistols or M4 rifles. Only those certified and qualified in the past year (per Army regulations) are armed. This was a deliberate escalation from initial unarmed patrols with body armor only.
  • Use of Force Rules:
    • Guard members receive mandatory training on de-escalation, rules for the use of force, and ROE before deployment.
    • Deadly force is permitted only as a last resort for self-defense or protection of others, specifically "upon reasonable belief of an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm." This aligns with standard law enforcement standards (e.g., similar to MPD protocols) and does not allow proactive offensive actions like routine arrests or crowd control with force.
    • Traditional ROE (military combat rules) do not apply here; instead, they follow state-like rules for the use of force (RUF) tailored for domestic support missions.
Why This Doesn't Violate Posse Comitatus
  • The PCA applies to federalized (Title 10) forces but not fully to Title 32 or state militia status. Out-of-state Guard units like West Virginia's operate under their governor's command (e.g., Gov. Patrick Morrisey) while supporting federal missions, creating a workaround for "support to law enforcement" roles (e.g., presence, logistics, protection of federal assets).
  • D.C.'s unique status (no state governor; president as commander-in-chief of the D.C. Guard under D.C. Code § 49-103) allows broader presidential discretion for deployments to "aid in enforcing the laws" during threats like riots or felonies—interpreted here as the "crime emergency."
  • No Insurrection Act invocation was needed, as this falls under protective support rather than full martial law.
Controversies and Limits
  • Legal Challenges: D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb and groups like the ACLU-WV have sued, arguing the deployment exceeds authority and risks turning the Guard into a "national police force." A federal judge ruled it illegal on November 20, 2025, citing PCA violations, but the administration appealed, and operations continue pending resolution. Similar rulings blocked expansions to other cities like Los Angeles.
  • Practical Concerns: Experts worry about escalation risks, as Guard troops lack the extensive civilian policing training of MPD officers. Historical precedents (e.g., Kent State 1970) highlight dangers of military force in domestic settings.
In the November 26 shooting, this authorization means the West Virginia guardsmen were legally equipped to respond with force if they perceived an imminent threat—though as noted earlier, it's still unclear who fired the shots wounding the suspect. If new details emerge from the FBI investigation, they could clarify any ROE application here. For the latest, I recommend checking official DoD or MPD updates.

Rahmanullah Lakanwal is the name of the guy supposedly.

Why did my top line show up so big?  I copied and pasted the name but it wasn't big where I copied it from.

Supposedly he was an afgan refugee let in in 2021.  Seems they should have vetted the refugees better.

somehow it went back to the normal size when posting...now I am confused.

From law-enforcement source:

Afghan National, born in 1996, armed with a revolver ambushed a female guardsman, shooting her in the head, and a male guardsman, shot multiple times. They never saw it coming. Both guardsmen were armed.

A Major in the National Guard, who was unarmed and doing his spot checks of the guardsmen was in the block, heard the shots and turned to see the shooter who spotted him. He took cover behind a truck.

The suspect came for the Major who pulled out his pocket knife, and bravely took on the suspect who was reloading his revolver.

The Major began stabbing the suspect in the head.

Another guardsman in the area who was armed, them drew his pistol and shot the suspect twice, once in the leg and once in the buttocks.

The Major stated that when the suspect began shooting he heard him shout, Allahu akbar!”

I just briefed [omitted].

Now, you know too.

There’s more: we trying to confirm if the suspect, an Afghan national was an interpreter brought over by Biden, because he has a Department of Defense record. Again, we are trying to confirm.

The suspect has a home address in Washington State.
